18 Bears Named to NEFC All-Academic Team

2010 NEFC All-Academic Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Eighteen members of the 2010 Bridgewater State University football team earned New England Football Conference (NEFC) All-Academic honors.  The all-academic team was released today by NEFC Director of Media Relations, Roger Crosley.

To qualify for the team, a player must have completed three semesters at the same institution and maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Guard Andrew Carr (Winchester, Mass.), safety Gilbert Cham (Dorchester, Mass.), quarterback Josh Euglow (North Smithfield, R.I.), running back Justin Fuller (Berkley, Mass.), center Chris Grande (New Bedford, Mass.) and wide receiver Ben Neel (Providence, R.I.) are the six seniors from the 2010 squad who achieved all-academic status.

Members of the junior class on the all-academic team are defensive linemen Jacon Curren (North Attleboro, Mass.), Matt MacFadzen (Agawam, Mass.) and Michael Nazzaro (Boxford, Mass.), running back Josh Paulson (Vineyard Haven, Mass.), tight end Brendan Sweed (Foxboro, Mass.) and cornerback Jordan Thompson (Kingston, Mass.).

Sophomores include linebackers Ryan Connolly (Norfolk, Mass.) and Derek Pontier (Southfield, Mass.), running backs Ben Desmarais (South Hadley, Mass.) and Nick Pistacchio (Johnston, R.I.), defensive tackle Paul Melicharek (Glen Rock, N.J.) and wide receiver Eric Menchi (Milton, Mass.).

The Bridgewater State football team posted a record of 5-5 during the 2010 season.  The Bears finished tied for fifth place in the NEFC Bogan Division standings with a 3-4 mark in divisional play.

Bridgewater has more all-academic student-athletes than any of the other six Massachusetts state colleges or universities competing in the NEFC.  MIT leads the conference with 28 representatives.
