Clark, Fuller Lead Bears Past Coast Guard, 27-6

NEW LONDON, CONN.--Junior running back Justin Fuller ran for 156 yards and a score while senior quarterback Steven Clark ran for 126 yards and a touchdown leading Bridgewater State to a 27-6 win over Coast Guard in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) Bogan Division game.

It took Bridgewater just four plays to get on the board on a 33-yard run by Clark with 12:51 left in the opening quarter, the extra point was blocked by Coast Guard's Chris Izurieta.

Sophomore Jacob Shackleford kicked a 32-yard field goal on Coast Guard's first possession before Bridgewater went 74 yards in just six plays capped on a 7-yard run by freshman Matt Gaouette for a 13-3 lead with 5:59 left in the first quarter.

Shackleford connected from 37 yards on CGA's next possession to cut the lead to 13-6.

Bridgewater (5-2, 3-1) scored on its third straight possession as senior Jeff Creeden capped a 12 play, 68-yard drive with a one-yard run with 9:26 left in the half for a 20-6 lead.

The only time the BSC offense was stopped in the first half was on a 4th-and-six from the CGA 15-yard line as they gained five yards and turned it over on downs with 1:15 left in the half.

BSC had 271 yards in the first half, 193 on the ground.

Bridgewater punted on its first possession of the second half, but increased the lead to 27-6 on a 51-yard touchdown run by Fuller on its next possession with 9:26 left in the third quarter.

Clark was 8 for 10 passing for 97 yards giving him 223 yards of total offense on the day for Bridgewater which is tied for first place, but now controls its own destiny as Fitchburg State was upset by Worcester State.

Coast Guard junior Jesse Karr was 20 of 46 for 185 yards with an interception while also running for 33 yards.

Senior Steve Arguelles led the Bears with nine receptions for 51 yards while also having a team-high 44 yards on 11 carries. Coast Guard had 311 total yards, 126 rushing.

Bridgewater State finished with 421 yards, 317 of those on the ground.

Each team turned the ball over just once.

Senior linebacker John Ferbert led Bridgewater State with eight tackles while junior safety Chris Costello led Coast Guard with nine stops.
