Football Rolls to 42-6 Win over UMass Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College football team rolled to a convincing 42-6 victory over New England Football Conference (NEFC) rival UMass Dartmouth this evening at soggy Cressy Field in North Dartmouth.

Bridgewater State improves to 2-0 on the season with the impressive win, as the Bears have scored over 40 points in each of their first two games.  UMass falls to 0-2 with the loss.  The all-time series is now even at 11 wins apiece.

Junior running back Justin Fuller (Berkley, MA) rushed for 184 yards and a touchdown on just 14 carries.  Fuller accumulated 156 yards on the ground in the first half alone.  He scored on a 53-yard run in the first quarter to give BSC an early 14-3 lead.

Senior running back Jeff Creeden (Mansfield, MA) found the end zone twice in the first half as he scored on runs of two and five yards.  His five-yard touchdown run capped off a 14-play, 80-yard drive late in the second quarter as the Bears took a 28-3 lead into halftime.

The Bears defense forced seven UMass turnovers including a third quarter fumble which resulted in a 45-yard return for a touchdown by senior defensive end Steve Tripp (North Dighton, MA).  UMass lost six fumbles during the contest and threw an interception.  BSC turned three of the UMass turnovers into 21 points.

Senior quarterback Steven Clark (East Falmouth, MA) rushed for 69 yards and completed 3 of 5 passes for 43 yards another score.  Clark opened the scoring with a 44-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and closed it with an 11-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Jesse Teixeira (Taunton, MA) early in the fourth quarter.

Senior linebacker John Ferbert (East Bridgewater, MA) paced the BSC defense as he recorded 11 tackles to go along with a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
