SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Samantha Burke (Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Emily Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) competed on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Assocuation (IHSA) Zones One Championships held at Mount Holyoke College.

Burke also guided Tex, a 15.3h Pinto QH Cross gelding, in limit over fences in a competitive class which resulted in further testing. She then hopped on J Lo, a 16h bay draft cross mare, and posted a fourth place finish.

Desmond grabbed the reins of Nat, a 17h Belgian WB gelding, in a very competitive limit flat class and brought home a tenth place for the Bears.

Burke and Desmond were both making their collegiate debut at the IHSA Zone One Championships.

Sacred Heart University (Region Five) captured the team title at the championship show, while the University of Vermont (Region Two) placed second and host Mount Holyoke (Region Three) finished third. Stonehill College (Region Four) rounded out the top four teams.
