Equestrian Places Fourth on Senior Day at ABD Equestrian Farm

NORFOLK, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University Equestrian team had a wonderful day hosting their home show at the ABD Equestrian Farm, placing fourth overall and celebrating their graduating seniors.

Freshman Abigail Abbott (Wareham, Mass.) started the day with an amazing ride on Fuego a 17hh bay warmblood gelding, in intermediate over fences and placed second. Abbott also hopped on Co, a 17.2hh bay warmblood gelding, in intermediate flat and finished fourth.

Sophomore Rianne Wyckstrom (Hudson, MA) rode Dude, a 15.2hh mustang gelding, in intermediate over fences and finished fourth. Wyckstrom then guided Gotham, a 17.1hh black Dutch warmblood gelding, in intermediate flat and posted a third place showing.

Sophomore Keelin Shanley (Marshfield, Mass.) steered Gus, a 17.2hh liver chestnut warmblood gelding, in open flat and placed second.

Junior captain Emily Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) grabbed the reins of Emitt, a 15.2hh bay Appendix gelding, in intermediate flat and placed second. Desmond also rode Dude in limit over fences and notched a third place showing.

Freshman Alyson McKeon (Worcester, Mass.) hopped on Goose, a 16.3hh grey ISH gelding, in limit flat and finished fifth.

Second year graduate student Katherine Weitbrecht (Braintree, Mass.) guided Tuesday, a 16.2hh crossbred brown and white gelding, in novice and finished fifth.

Freshman Jillian Wenners (Plymouth, Mass.) also showed in novice on Pepper, a 14.3hh Appy gelding, placing third.

Senior Julia McNeely (Centerville, Mass.) wrapped up the day in introductory with a lovely ride on Hank, a 14hh big-bodied chestnut pony, and showed in third.

After the show, the Bears honored Weitrbrecht, McNeely and senior Samantha Burke (Weymouth, Mass.).

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, March 16th at the Century Mill Stables show hosted by Brandeis. The show is the last of the season before regionals.
