Equestrian Competes at Turning Point Show Stables

EAST KINGSTON, N.H. -- The Bridgewater State University equestrian team competed on Saturday at the Turning Point Show Stables in East Kingston, New Hampshire. Endicott College and Brandeis University co-hosted the show.

Senior captain Samantha Burke (Weymouth, Mass.) rode Kozi, a 14.3hh quarter horse chestnut gelding, in intermediate over fences and finished fifth. Burke then jumped on Victor, a 15.3hh thoroughbred bay gelding, and placed second, pointing Burke out of limit flat and onto regionals.

Freshman Abigail Abbott (Wareham, Mass.) guided Benny, a 16.1hh chestnut gelding, in intermediate flat and had an amazing ride winning the class. Abbott also rode Navarra, a 15.2hh grey draft mare, in intermediate over fences and finished fifth.

Sophomore Keelin Shanley (Marshfield, Mass.) rode Benny in open flat and had a third-place showing. Shanley also directed Lou, a 16.1hh chestnut thoroughbred gelding, in intermediate over fences and brought home another third.

Sophomore Rianne Wyckstrom (Hudson, Mass.) hopped on Max, a 16.2hh paint gelding, in intermediate on the flat and earned a third-place ribbon.

Junior captain Emily Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) rode Kozi in limit over fences and finished sixth.

Sophomore Hannah Arsenault (Attleboro, Mass.) conducted Nysa, a 13.3 paint mare pony, in limit flat and finished fourth. 

Freshman AJ McKeon (Worcester, Mass.) steered Octavius, a 16hh dark brown warmblood gelding, in limit flat and finished fifth.

Freshman Natalia BarNoy (Londonderry, N.H.) rode Uno, a 15.1 chestnut draft cross gelding, in limit flat and notched a third-place showing.

Graduate student Katherine Weitbrecht (Braintree, Mass.) guided Gizmo, a 14.1 pintalossa gelding, in novice flat and finished fifth.

Freshman Jillian Wenners (Plymouth, Mass.) directed Delilah, a 14.1 chestnut mare pony, in pre novice and placed second.

Senior Julia McNeely (Centerville, Mass.) hopped on Kozi in her collegiate debut and brought home a third-place ribbon.

The BSU equestrian team will close out the fall semester schedule on Sunday morning when the Bears head to the ABD Equestiran Farm in Norfolk, Massachusetts. Boston College is hosting the show.
