Equestrian Competes at Century Mill Stables

BOLTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University equestrian team competed on Halloween Sunday at Century Mill Stables in Bolton, Massachusetts. Bentley University and Endicott College co-hosted the show.

Junior Ashley Crosby (Littleton, Mass.) got things started for the Bears as she rode Ripple, a 16 hand Appaloosa gelding, in her open fences class. Crosby rode her way to a third place showing. Crosby then mounted Red, a 17 hand chestnut Warmblood gelding, for her open flat class and added another third place performance.

Senior captain Madison Elliott (Centerville, Mass.) entered her open flat class on Luna, a 16.2 hand grey Warmblood mare. Elliott rode her way through a difficult class and collected a third place ribbon. Elliott also rode Swish, a 15-hand chestnut Quarter Horse mare, in her intermediate fences class, resulting in a fourth place finish.

Next in the ring was senior Katherine Ryan (Mendon, Mass.). Ryan entered her intermediate flat class on Red, 17 hand chestnut Warmblood gelding. Ryan rode her way through a difficult class placing sixth overall.

Sophomore Samantha Burke (Weymouth, Mass.) hopped on Tic-Tac, a 14.1 hand Appaloosa gelding, for her limit fences class. Burke jumped her way to fifth and then subsequently rode Red, a 17-hand chestnut Warmblood gelding, to a fifth place finish in limit flat class.

Junior Ashley Drake (Suffield, Conn.) mounted Luna, the 16.2 hand grey Warmblood mare, for her limit flat class and rode her way to a third place showing.

Junior captain Jenna Root (Rutland, Mass.) entered her novice flat class on Fergus, a 15.2 hand buckskin Quarter Horse gelding. Root placed second and also qualified for regionals.

Senior Abby Lucas (Pembroke, Mass.) mounted Kozi, a 14.3 chestnut Quarter Horse gelding, for her novice flat class and rode to a third place showing.

Junior Hannah Nezuch (Marlborough, Mass.) rode Keeper, a 16 hand bay Warmblood gelding, in her introductory class. Nezuch placed fourth in the class.

Senior Claudia Pupo (Medford, Mass.) made her Bridgewater State equestrian debut on Vivid, a 16 hand grey Warmblood cross gelding. Pupo completed her first class with a sixth place performance.

The BSU equestrian team will be back in action on Sunday, November 7th when the Bears head to the Hillside Meadows Equestrian Center in Grafton, Massachusetts. Boston College is hosting the show.
