Thies Leads Equestrian at Autumn Sky Farm Show

DANVER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University equestrian team competed at an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 1, Region 4 event hosted by Endicott College on Saturday at Autumn Sky Farm in Danver.

Senior Kelly Thies (Cranston, R.I.) won her class in intermediate fences on Penny, a 15.2 hand chestnut quarter horse mare. Thies qualified for regionals over fences and also moved up a division into open fences. She also rode Athena, a 15 hand bay draft cross mare, and placed fourth in open flat.

Freshman Madison Elliott (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior Jeanna Meloni (Falmouth, Mass.) both competed in novice fences on Bruce, a 14.2 hand Connemara cross. Elliott placed third and Meloni fourth in the event. Elliott also rode Winston, a 15.1 hand bay quarter horse gelding, in intermediate flat and placed fifth, while Meloni placed sixth in novice flat on Allie, a 16.2 bay warmblood mare.

Junior Sydney Hawes (Pembroke, Mass.) competed in her first novice flat class and placed fifth on Jellybean, a 14 hand grey pony mare. Sophomore Tessa LeBlanc (Harwich, Mass.) rode Keegan, a 14.1 hand Appaloosa pony, and placed second. LeBlanc pointed out of advanced walk trot canter and into novice. She also qualified for regionals.

Junior Maria Marchione (Hull, Mass.) rode Winston in advanced walk trot canter, placing fourth.

The Bears are back in action on Saturday, March 23rd when they co-host a show along with Stonehill College at Winters End Farm in Stoughton.
