Ian was a four-year member of the SNHU baseball team as he pitched for the Division II Penman from 2013 to 2016. The Penman captured a pair of Northeast-10 championships (2014, 2016) during that span, made four straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearances, and won a school-record 50 games in 2016.
In 45 1/3 innings over 38 career appearances on the mound, Ian went 3-1 for the Penmen with 45 strikeouts and a 3.97 earned run average.
Prior to attending Southern New Hampshire, Ian played high school baseball at Wareham High School where he was a three-time South Coast Conference All-Star and three-time Standard Times All-Scholastic selection.
In his first season as the Bears' pitching coach in 2021, Searles helped guide MASCAC Pitcher of the Year, David Kerns, and fellow All-MASCAC selection, Colin Josselyn. Bridgewater State led the MASCAC in earned run average in 2021 (3.89) and posted the program's best team ERA since 2021.
