Matthew Seavey Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate righthander Matthew Seavey has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Seavey tossed seven shutout innings to earn the win in the Bears’ 10-2 MASCAC victory last week over Fitchburg State. The North Attleboro, Massachusetts product gave up just two hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts.

In seven appearances for the Bears this season, all starts, Seavey is a perfect 5-0 with a 2.45 earned run average. He has fanned 27 batters over 40 1/3 innings of work, and opponents are batting just .205 against him.

Seavey is tied for the MASCAC lead in games started and ranks second in wins and ERA. He is also third in innings pitched and tied for eighth in strikeouts.

In 29 career appearances (28 starts) over three seasons with the Bears, Seavey has produced 16 wins and one shutout with 144 strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA over 168 2/3 innings.

Last season, Seavey was named to the All-MASCAC Team for the second straight season. He was also selected to the D3baseball.com All-Region Two Third Team in 2022.

The MASCAC Pitcher of the Week honor marks the fourth of Seavey's career.

The BSU baseball team is currently 12-11 on the season and 6-4 in the MASCAC. The Bears are currently taking on Massachusetts Maritime Academy in game two of a conference twinbill.
