Matt Josselyn Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fifth time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate student Matt Josselyn has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

The MASCAC Tournament MVP, Josselyn tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout in the Bears' 3-0 victory over Salem State University in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament last week. The Hanson, Massachusetts product walked just one batter and fanned six as he helped the Bears' capture their first MASCAC Championship since 2021 and sixth overall.

In 11 appearances on the mound this season including ten starts, Josselyn is 7-2 with five complete games, four shutouts, 65 strikeouts and a 1.82 earned run average over 64 1/3 innings of work. Opponents are also batting just .187 against him and he sports an impressive 0.79 WHIP (walks & hits per innings pitched).

Josselyn currently leads the MASCAC in shutouts, strikeouts and WHIP, and is tied for the conference lead in complete games. He is also tied for second among the MASCAC leaders in wins and is fourth in both ERA and innings pitched.

On a national level, Josselyn ranks sixth in all of Division III in WHIP, 13th in complete games, 25th in ERA and 26th in strikeouts to walk ratio (7.22). 

In 36 career appearances with the Bears (25 starts), Josselyn has produced 13 wins with 141 strikeouts and a 3.56 ERA over 164 1/3 innings.

The BSU baseball team is currently 30-13 on the season. Bridgewater went 3-0 during the MASCAC Tournament to capture the conference crown, including a 7-4 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the championship game. The Bears will compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 15th time in program history and first since 2012. Bridgewater will head to SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York later this week for regional play. The Bears will take on the host Red Dragons on Friday afternoon (tba) in the opening round of the four-team regional tournament.
