Matt Josselyn Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the fourth time this season, Bridgewater State University graduate student Matt Josselyn has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Josselyn tossed a complete game victory in the Bears’ 4-1 MASCAC win over Worcester State last week. The Hanson, Massachusetts product allowed just one run on five hits with no walks and nine strikeouts against the Lancers. Josselyn extended his school record scoreless inning streak to 40 1/3 innings before surrendering a run in the seventh.

In nine appearances on the mound this season including eight starts, Josselyn is 6-1 with 55 strikeouts and a 1.04 earned run average over 52 innings of work. Opponents are also batting just .193 against him.

Josselyn currently ranks second in the MASCAC in strikeouts and ERA. He is also tied for second among the conference leaders in complete games, third in wins and fourth in innings pitched.

On a national level, Josselyn ranks sixth in all of Division III in ERA and is tied for 12th in complete games. 

In 34 career appearances with the Bears (23 starts), Josselyn has produced 12 wins with 131 strikeouts and a 3.43 ERA over 152 innings.

The BSU baseball team is currently 26-11 on the season and 16-2 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to conference rival Westfield State University on Friday afternoon to take on the Owls at 3:30. The Bears then wrap up regular season play with a home doubleheader against Westfield on Saturday with game one getting underway at noon.
