Scott Emerson Named MASCAC Baseball Player & Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman second baseman Scott Emerson has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player and Rookie of the Week.

A native of Peabody, Massachusetts, Emerson batted .524 (11-21) in a 5-1 week for the Bears with a double, four walks, six stolen bases, ten runs scored and three runs batted in. He also posted an impressive .600 on base percentage.

Emerson went 5-for-6 with a double, two walks, three stolen bases and four runs in a MASCAC doubleheader sweep of Mass. Maritime; 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in a setback to Brandeis University; and 4-for-11 with two walks, three stolen bases, four runs and two RBI in a conference three-game sweep of Worcester State.

Through 37 games this season, Emerson is batting .371 (52-140) with eight doubles, a triple, 15 walks, 29 stolen bases, 37 runs and a 30 RBI.

Emerson currently leads the MASCAC is tied for tenth in all of Division III with his 29 stolen bases. He also ranks second among the conference leaders in both hits and at bats, third in runs scored, tied for fourth in runs batted in and fifth in batting average.

The BSU baseball team is currently 26-11 on the season and 16-2 in the MASCAC. The Bears travel to conference rival Westfield State University on Friday afternoon to take on the Owls at 3:30. The Bears then wrap up regular season play with a home doubleheader against Westfield on Saturday with game one getting underway at noon.
