Baseball Drops 7-0 Decision to Manhattanville in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Bridgewater State University baseball team dropped a 7-0 decision to Manhattanville College on Sunday afternoon at Pelican Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The Bears fall to 1-2 on the young season, while the Valiants even their record at 1-1.

Junior righthander Travis Brescia (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and junior lefthander Thomas Iazzetta (Thornwood, N.Y.) combined on a three-hit shutout for Manhattanville. Brescia (1-0) picked up the win as he gave up just one hit and fanned two with no walks over five innings. Iazzetta tossed the last four innings giving up two hits and a walk with four strikeouts to record the save. The duo allowed just three base runners to reach second base while also retiring the side in order in the second, third, fourth, sixth and ninth innings.

The Valiants managed just five hits in the victory but capitalized on six walks and five BSU errors while also stealing nine bases.

Graduate first baseman Matt Tuite (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) walked three times in four plate appearances, stole two bases and scored two runs for Manhattanville. Graduate catcher Joseph Silvestri (Bronx, N.Y.) went 1-for-2 with a walk, three stolen bases and two runs scored, while junior left fielder Michael Musantry (Mahopac, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a stolen base, two runs and an RBI.

Junior righthander Matthew Seavey (North Attleboro, Mass.) went the first four innings on the mound in his debut for the Bears. Seavey (0-1) gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits with four walks and six strikeouts in the setback.

Junior third baseman Joey Molis (Cumberland, R.I.), junior first baseman Dan Saraceno (Mansfield, Mass.), and sophomore catcher Mathew Pigeon (Canton, Mass.) accounted for the Bears' three hits in the contest.

Bridgewater State's trip to Myrtle Beach continues on Monday morning when the Bears take on Penn College of Technology at 9:30.
