BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior catcher Kevin Bresciani and freshman second baseman Liam Bell have been named as first team selections on the 2019 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletics Conference (MASCAC) Baseball All-Conference Team.
Bresciani batted .397 (48-121) over 37 games (36 starts) in 2019 with six doubles, 18 walks, 24 runs scored and 22 runs batted in. He also got hit by a pitch six times, stole three bases and posted a .490 on base percentage to go along with a .446 slugging percentage. Behind the dish, the Hopedale, Massachusetts product threw out 19 runners attempting to steal and registered a .967 fielding percentage.
Bresciani currently ranks second in the MASCAC in batting and runners caught stealing as well as third in on base percentage. He is also tied for seventh among the conference leaders in hits and tied for ninth in times hit by a pitch.
In 48 games at Bridgewater State, Bresciani posted a career batting average of .376 (59-157) with 28 runs and 26 RBI.
Bell put together an impressive rookie campaign as he batted .377 (52-138) with nine doubles, 11 walks, seven stolen bases, 37 runs and 21 RBI in 36 games (35 starts). The Wells, Maine product also registered a .442 slugging percentage and a .427 on base percentage.
Defensively, Bell recorded a .963 fielding percentage in 163 chances (69 putouts, 88 assists) and helped turn 15 double plays.
Bell ranks third in MASCAC in hits, fifth in batting, seventh in assists and tenth in total bases (61). He is also tied for third in the conference in runs, tied for eighth in doubles and tied for tenth in double plays turned.
The BSU baseball team wrapped up the 2019 season with an overall record of 17-22 including a 11-10 mark in the MASCAC. Seeded fifth in the MASCAC Tournament, the Bears notched a 14-5 win over #4 Salem State before dropping a pair of decisions to top-seeded Westfield State and second-seeded Fitchburg State.
The 2019 Bears improved their win total by 12 games from the year before. It marked the best single-season turnaround in program history.
