Baseball Battles Curry to 10-10 Tie in 12 Innings

MILTON, Mass. – In collegiate baseball action on Wednesday afternoon, Bridgewater State University and Curry College played to a 10-10 tie in a game that was called after 12 innings due to darkness.

The Colonels record moves to 2-4-1 while the Bears now stand at 6-5-1.

Sean Riley paced the Bears' offense, going 4 for 5 with two RBI, including a solo home run to lead off the game. Trevor Lawson collected two hits and three runs batted in, while Keane Costa, Craig Stewart and John Garabedian  recorded two hits apiece.  Garabedian finished 2-for-4 and reached safely four times as he doubled twice, walked and was hit by a pitch.

Trailing 7-3, the Bears pushed across four runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game.  Costa and Lawson had RBI singles in the frame while Garabedian walked with the bases loaded and Riley knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Bridgewater scored a run in the seventh on a Lawson sacrifice fly and added a pair of unearned runs in the eighth to take a 10-7 advantage.  That lead was short-lived, however, as Curry pulled even with three runs in the bottom of the frame. The teams then played four scoreless innings before the game was called due to darkness.

Offensively, the Colonels were led by Derek Pizarro, who went 3 for 7 with four runs batted in.  Matt O'Neill notched a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Curry starter Thomas Fitzpatrick went two innings, surrendering two hits, a walk, and two earned runs, while striking out one. Bridgewater starter David Holmes tossed three innings, allowing four hits, two walks, and four earned runs, while fanning two.

Chris Pessotti pitched well in relief for the Bears as he worked 4 1/3scorless innings giving up just one hit and no walks while striking out four.

Bridgewater left 16 runners on base including the bases loaded in the 12th.

Both teams resume play on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with the Colonels hosting Fitchburg State and the Bears visiting Suffolk.
