Baseball Routs Norwich, 17-3

VERO BEACH, Fla. -- The Bridgewater State University baseball team banged out a season-high 24 hits in a 17-3 rout of Norwich University on Thursday afternoon at the Vero Beach Sports Village.

The Bears, who improve to 4-3 on the season with the victory, snapped a 1-1 tie with a five-run fourth inning. Bridgewater would score 16 runs over the final five innings.

Kenny Pennini (Millis, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season on the hill as he worked the first six innings.  Pennini (2-0) gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with three strikeouts.

Tory Buck (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) led the Bears' offensive attack as he went 3-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. Buck's three hits all went for extra bases as he doubled twice and tripled.

Of BSU's 24 hits, seven went for extra bases including three triples.

David Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Jose Polanco (Lawrence, Mass.) also finished with three hits apiece.  Pierce went 3-for-6 with a triple, three runs and a pair of RBI, while Polanco was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a run and an RBI.

Trevor Lawson (Easton, Mass.) and Jacob Souza (Acushnet, Mass.) combined to go 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI out of the top spot of the lineup.  Keane Costa (Fairhaven, Mass.) and John Garabedian (Mansfield, Mass.) also had two hits apiece.

Lucas Cimmino (Westfield, Mass.) worked the final three innings on the mound to record his first save of the season.  Cimmino gave up just one hit and two walks while fanning two.

The Bears wrap up their Florida trip tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 against St. Scholastica.
