BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College baseball team split a doubleheader with MASCAC rival Framingham State on Sunday afternoon from BSC's Alumni Park in Bridgewater.

Framingham (5-14, 1-3 MASCAC) won the first game by a score of 7-5, while the Bears (11-10, 3-1 MASCAC) earned the split with a 10-2 victory in game two.

In the opener, the Rams scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 4-1 deficit.  Sophomore Steve Tramontozzi (Watertown, MA) had the big hit in the inning as he belted a game-winning grand slam.

Senior Matt Nicholson (Watertown, MA) picked up the win on the mound for Framingham as he went the distance giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits.  Nicholson (2-3) walked one and struck out three.

Junior Sean O'Neill (Norwood, MA) suffered the loss for the Bears.  O'Neill (2-2) allowed just one run through the first six innings before running into trouble in the seventh.  He allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Framingham had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by sophomore Joe Sheehan (Burlington, MA).

Bridgewater pushed across four runs in the bottom of the sixth to jump ahead 4-1 thanks in part to back-to-back home runs by junior Matt Greenberg (Norwell, MA) and senior Brendon Elliot (Brockton, MA).  Greenberg belted a two-run blast and Elliot followed that up with a solo shot. After a Brad Koneski (North Dighton, MA) double, sophomore Jeff Puopolo (Brockton, MA) gave BSC a 4-1 lead with an RBI single.

Greenberg and Elliot finished with two hits apiece in the opener.  Greenberg went 2-for-3 with a walk, while Elliot was 2-for-4 as he added an RBI single in the seventh.

In game two, Bridgewater put the game away early by scoring five times in the bottom of the first.  The Bears added three more runs in the third and two more in the sixth as they breezed to the 10-2 win.

Senior Tim Bonham (Marshfield, MA) was the beneficiary of the good run support in game two as he picked up the complete game victory.  Bonham (2-2) scattered nine hits, walked one and struck out two.

Elliot doubled in two runs with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first to open the scoring.  Koneski followed with a two-run single and would later come around to score the fifth run of the inning on an RBI single by Puopolo.

Framingham got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI single off the bat of junior Ryan McCarthy (Shrewsbury, MA).  Bridgewater however answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning with Puopolo plating a run with an RBI double and junior Mark Claffey (Bellingham, MA) adding an RBI single.

The Bears would round out the scoring with a pair of runs in the sixth thanks in large part to three triples in the inning.  Claffey led off the frame with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman pinch hitter David Dole (West Bridgewater, MA). Elliot and Koneski followed with back-to-back triples to give the Bears a 10-2 lead.

Claffey finished 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and an RBI in game two.  Koneski went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Elliot (2-for-4) and Puopolo (2-for-3) had two hits apiece.

Sheehan paced the Rams with three hits in four at bats, while Tramontozzi went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

The Bears host Rhode Island College on Monday afternoon at 3:30 PM, while Framingham travels to UMass Boston on Tuesday night for a seven o'clock game with the Beacons.
