Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader with Salem State

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

SALEM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College Bears pounded their way to a 14-2 game one victory and then pulled out a 4-3 extra innings win in game two to complete a doubleheader sweep of Salem State in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) baseball twinbill played this afternoon in Salem.

The Bears (9-8; 2-0 MASCAC) recorded 18 hits in the opener.  The visitors led 3-2 after three innings and 6-2 after five full.  BSC blew the game open over the final two innings, scoring eight more runs.

Top hitters for BSC included senior Kelly LaDow (East Falmouth, MA) who went 4-for-5 with three RBI and senior David Kiloski (Lowell, MA) who finished 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Senior J.T. Mooney (North Attleboro, MA) and and junior Mark Claffey (Bellingham, MA) each scored three times.

Junior starter Sean O'Neill (Norwood, MA) recorded the win for the visitors. O'Neill allowed two runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. He walked two and struck out eight.

SSC was able to collect just six hits, including an RBI double by senior Ben Garlington (Rochester, MaA).

Game two was a complete opposite of game one.  The two teams battled to a 3-3 tie through eight innings with the Bears plating the eventual game-winning run in the top of the ninth.  An unearned run decided the game.

Brian Guillotte (New Bedford, MA) earned the win in relief for the Bears.  Guillotte entered the game with the score tied at 3-3 with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh.  After getting a big strikeout to send the game into extra innings, he proceeded to retired the side in each of the next two innings with four more strikeouts.

Mooney went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and scored two runs including the game-winner.  LaDow had a big two-run triple in the fifth which, at the time, gave BSC a 3-2 lead.

The Vikings recieved doubles from senior Ken Luongo (Wilmington, MA) and junior Steve Mucci (Walkill, NY).  Sophomore Evan Valcourt (Salisbury, MA) went 3-for-4 and sophomore Ryan Kane (Nahant, MA) added a pair of hits for SSC.
