Baseball Bows to Suffolk, 6-2

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College baseball team suffered a 6-2 defeat at the hands of visiting Suffolk University this afternoon from BSC's Alumni Park in Bridgewater.

Senior Dan Delia (Boston, MA) picked up his third win of the year on the mound to help Suffolk improve to 9-3 on the season.  The Rams have also won seven of their last eight games.

Suffolk collected 13 hits on the afternoon and took advantage of five Bridgewater State errors. Delia allowed two runs on eight hits in 7 2/3 innings and sophomore Mark Addesa (Revere, MA) knocked in a pair of runs for the Rams.

Bridgewater falls to 7-8 on the season as the Bears have lost two straight games and six of the last eight. BSC has also committed 17 errors in the last five games.

Suffolk jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Addesa drove in the game's first run on a bases loaded single.  The Rams tacked on three more runs in the fourth taking advantage of a couple of SC miscues. Junior Rory Gentile (Gloucester, MA) had the big hit in the inning with two-run double to the gap in left-center field.

The Rams added single runs in each of the last two innings. Senior Paul Vittozzi (North Reading, MA) had an RBI single in the eighth.  Addesa picked up his third hit of the game in the ninth driving home senior Keith Carter (Newburyport, MA) who scored three runs on the day.

Bridgewater scored in the fifth on a two out solo home run by senior Kelly LaDow (East Falmouth, MA). The Bears continued to threaten that inning as the next three hitters reached base to load them up, but Delia worked out of the jam forcing an infield pop up to short.

The Bears touched Delia for another run in the eighth as LaDow singled and junior Matt Greenberg (Norwell, MA) followed with another single. Senior David Kilowski's (Lowell, MA) two out RBI single would then chase Delia from the game with the 5-2 lead. Delia handed the ball off to sophomore reliever Jon Handy (South Burlington, VT) who got out of the jam with a soft line out to second.

Handy worked an easy ninth inning to pick up his second save of the year. Carter and Addesa both finished the game 3 for 4 for the Rams, while Handy, Vittozzi and Gentile each added a pair of hits.

LaDow finished 2-for-4 with two runs, while Greenberg had two hits in four at bats.
