Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - The Bridgewater State College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Husson College this afternoon from BSC's Alumni Park.

After being one-hit in a 6-0 loss in game one, the Bears rebounded with a 9-7 victory in game two.  BSC is now 6-6 on the season while Husson checks in at 11-6.

Senior right-hander Chris Pease (Hampden, ME) tossed a complete game one-hit shutout in the opener for Husson.  Pease (2-1) allowed a single in the third, walked three and struck out seven. He retired 11 straight batters at one point and 15 of the last 17 he faced.

Husson plated three unearned runs in the top of the first thanks in part to a big infield error.  After a leadoff single by Kyle Vanidestine (Bangor, ME), Ethan Guerette (Wales, ME) reached on an error on what should have been a double play ball.  After a fly out and a groundout, Dennis Graham (Miramichi, NB) drove in a run with an RBI single, and Jeff Miller (Veazie, ME) followed with a two-run triple.

The Eagles would plate single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to round out the scoring. Vanidestine finished 3-for-4 with a run and two stolen bases.  Cody Haverly-Johndro (Newport, ME) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI single.

Tim Bonham (Marshfield, MA) suffered the loss on the mound for the Bears.  Bonham (1-2) allowed four runs (one earned) on seven hits while walking four and striking out five.

In game two, BSC used a six-run fourth inning to take a 9-2 lead.  The Bears would eventually hang on for the 9-7 win as Husson rallied for five runs in the final two innings.

The Bears scored single runs in each of the first three innings to take a 3-2 lead.  J.T. Mooney (North Attleboro, MA) singled and came around to score on a Kelly LaDow (East Falmouth, MA) RBI single in the first.  Back-to-back doubles by Brad Koneski (North Dighton, MA) and Mooney in the second inning gave BSC a 2-0 lead. After Husson tied the game with two runs in the top of the third, the Bears answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning thanks to four Eagle errors.

Bridgewater banged out 13 hits in the nightcap including eight in the six-run fourth.  J.T. Mooney (North Attleboro, MA) got the scoring in the inning started with an RBI triple which was followed by a run scoring single from Mark Claffey (Bellingham, MA).  An RBI double by Matt Greenberg (Norwell, MA) and an RBI single by David Kiloski (Lowell, MA) gave BSC a 7-2 lead.  Greg Steele (North Dighton, MA) capped off the frame with a two-run single.

Mooney came within a home run of hitting for the cycle for the Bears as he finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.  Steele finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in, while Koneski was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored.

Trailing 9-2 Husson pushed across three run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to three Bridgewater State errors.  A two-run home run by Miller in the top of the seventh pulled the Eagles to within two runs at 9-7.  A two-out walk to Haverly-Johndro put the tying run at the plate with two outs, but BSC reliever Brian Guillotte (New Bedford, MA) ended the game with a strikeout.

Sean O'Neill (Norwood, MA) picked up his first win in a BSC uniform.  O'Neill (1-1) pitched the first six innings allowing five unearned runs on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.

The two teams combined to make nine errors in the contest resulting in six unearned runs.  There were also 21 hits in the game as well as seven walks and two hit batsmen. Husson left nine runners on base while Bridgewater State stranded six.

Kyle Leeman (Bangor, ME) was tagged with the loss on the mound for the Eagles.  Leeman (2-1) allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.  He also walked two batters and struck out two.

Ryan Walker (Hollis, ME) pitched very well in relief for Husson as he hit a batter and gave up just one hit in 2 2/3 innings.

Graham led Husson's eight-hit attack as he went 3-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI in game two.  Guerette added a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a double, a run and an RBI.
