Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader with Penn. State-Brandywine

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

COCOA, Fla. - The Bridgewater State College baseball team swept a doubleheader with Penn. State-Brandywine on Tuesday afternoon in Cocoa, Florida.  The Bears posted a 5-2 victory in the opener of the twinbill and completed the sweep with a 4-3 win in game two.

Senior right-hander Tim Bonham (Marshfield, MA) picked up the complete game victory in the opener as the Bears scored three runs in the third inning and two in the fourth to come away with the 5-2 win.

Bonham (1-0) allowed just the two runs on three hits while striking out seven in his first start of the 2009 season.

Junior third baseman Mark Claffey (Bellingham, MA) and senior catcher Kelly LaDow (East Falmouth, MA) paced the Bears' offensive attack.  Claffey finished 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, while LaDow went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the nightcap, sophomore right-hander Brian Guillotte (New Bedford, MA) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning as the Bears hung for the 4-3 triumph.

Guillotte (2-0), who was also making his first start of the season, went the distance allowing three runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. The no-hitter was broken up by a home run in the top of the fifth.

Claffey and LaDow again led the BSC hitting attack with two hits apiece.  Claffey went 2-for-2, while LaDow had two hits in three at bats.  Junior shortstop Brian Medairos (Brockton, MA) knocked in what proved to be the deciding run with an RBI double off the fence in the fourth inning.

Bridgewater (4-2) will take on Norwich University in a single game on Wednesday at noon.  The Bears will then wrap up their Florida trip with a doubleheader against Oneonta State University on Thursday starting at 10 AM.
