Cape Verde Men's National Basketball Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- There will be an open practice for the Cape Verde Men's National Basketball Team on Thursday, August 17th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Adrian Tinsley Center.

The Cape Verde Men’s National Basketball Team qualified for its first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup earlier this year, becoming the smallest nation to ever qualify for the tournament.

The 2023 FIBA World Cup will take place from Friday, August 25th through Sunday, September 10th with Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines serving as the host nations. Cape Verde is in Group F along with Slovenia, Georgia and Venezuela. Group F will be competing at Okinawa Arena in Okinawa, Japan.

Bridgewater State University President Fred Clark and BSU’s Institute for Cape Verdean Studies welcomed the team to Bridgewater State on Monday. The Institute for Cape Verdean Studies shares and celebrates the culture, language, and history of Cape Verde as one of the world’s earliest Creole Societies.

The Cape Verde Men's National Basketball Team is practing at the Tinsley Center on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of this week. They will also be heading to the Red Auerbach Center in Boston on Wednesday for a practice session at the Boston Celtics' facility.

On Tuesday night, the team will be at the Boys and Girls Club of Metro South (Brockton) for a special event from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
