Ron McCarthy

Ron McCarthy was a two-sport athlete at Bridgewater State College competing in both football (4 years) and baseball (4 years). McCarthy was named to the NEFC All Star Team in both 1981 and 1982 as a wide receiver. In 1981, he set the Bears' single-season record for pass receptions with 46 (since broken), and finished his football career with 85 catches for 1,325 yards and eight touchdowns. On the baseball field, Ron capped off an outstanding career in his senior year when he hit .453 with six home runs and 35 runs batted in. He was named to the NCAA All-American Second Team and the All-New England First Team. He was the first BSC player ever to be named to either of these all-star teams. He was also the first BSC player to compete in the annual College All-Star game at Fenway Park.

Ron has also coached both football (1989) and baseball (1984) at Bridgewater State.

Ron worked as a history teacher and vice principal at Middleboro High School from 1986 to 1996 where he coached both baseball and basketball. He served as assistant principal at Duxbury High School from 1996 to 2005 and was also the principal at Bourne High School and Dedham High School.

Ron is currently the principal at Quantum High School in Boynton Beach, Florida. He and his wife, Diane (’84), have two daughters, Olivia and Veronica. Olivia graduated from American University in 2015 and Veronica graduated from Syracuse University in 2017. Diane and Ron have been married for 33 years and currently have a home in Duxbury, Massachusetts and in Boca Raton, Florida.
