BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Elisabeth Sweeney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.

Sweeney placed 23rd out of a field of 67 runners this past weekend at the Eighth Annual Bruce Kirsh Cup hosted by Franklin Pierce University at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Contoocook, New Hampshire. The Marshfield, Massachusetts product covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 20:47.21.

Sweeney and the BSU women's cross country team will be back in action on Saturday when the Bears head to Stanley Park in Westfield, Massachusetts for the 25th Annual James Earley Invitational.
