Women’s Cross Country Places 20th at Division III East Regional

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Maura Bruns (Franklin, Mass.) placed 87th out of field of 218 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team at the 2021 NCAA Division III East Region Cross Country Championships held on Saturday at Franklin Park.

Bruns covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 26:30.

Senior Megan Leary (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed 105th with a time of 26:58, while sophomore Ashley Schepis (Norton, Mass.) crossed the line in 27:16 (110th overall) to round out the Bears' top three harriers.

Senior Ari Marks (Eagle Point, Ore.) of Wellesley College won the individual championship with a time of 21:17.

Tufts University captured the team title while MIT, Bates College, Brandeis University, Wellesley and Colby College rounded out the top six. Tufts automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships which will take place next Saturday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Bears finished 20th in the team standings.
