Women's Cross Country Competes at Western New England Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Junior Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) placed third out of a field of 72 runners to lead the Bridgewater State University women's cross country team on Saturday at the Western New England Invitational.

The Bears placed third overall in the team standings. University of New England captured the team title followed by Salve Regina University in second place and BSU in third.

Glavin covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 24:38.4. Graduate Student Jasmine Syed (Canterbury, N.H.) of UNE captured the meet title with a time of 23:46.1.

Bridgewater State also had four other harriers place in the top 20. Junior Maura Bruns (Franklin, Mass.) was the next Bear across the finish line as she checked in with a time of 25:54.3 to place tenth overall. Bruns was followed by senior Megan Leary (North Attleboro, Mass.) in 15th place (26:35.8), freshman Elisabeth Sweeney (Marshfield, Mass.) in 17th place (26:50.3) and sophomore Ashley Schepis (Norton, Mass.) in 18th place (26:54.7).

Following an off weekend, the BSU cross country teams will compete at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships hosted by Fitchburg State University on Saturday, October 30th at the Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster, Massachusetts.
