Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The Gordon College women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State University in a non-conference match on Thursday night at Kanas Court. Gordon won the match by set scores of 25-8, 25-10 and 25-15.

The Fighting Scots improve to 5-4 on the season, while the visiting Bears fall to 2-2.

Gordon dominated all facets of the match. The Fighting Scots recorded a .288 hitting percentage, 12 aces and nine blocks, while limiting the Bears to a -.106 hitting percentage, three aces and three blocks.

Junior middle hitter Valerie Nilan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) paced Gordon with a match-high seven kills and seven assisted blocks to go alone with an ace and three digs. Senior outside hitter Jordan Shaduk (Baltimore, Md.) added six kills, three digs and an assisted block for the Fighting Scots, while sophomore setter Katie Howe (Belfast, N.Y.) checked in with a match-best 14 assists and four aces as well as three digs and an assisted block.

Senior outside hitter Gabryella Serrano (Bridgewater, Mass.) led the way for Bridgewater State with four kills, one ace and an assisted block. Senior middle hitter Sydney Rice (Medway, Mass.) added four kills, one digs and an assisted block for the Bears, while senior right side hitter Becca Whalen (Plymouth, Mass.) tallied three kills, one dig and a solo block. Junior libero Victoria Caiano (Acushnet, Mass.), junior setter Savannah Quintal (Assonet, Mass.) and sophomore setter Bethany Votta (Cumberland, R.I.) combined for 15 assists with Caiano also registering one ace and a match-high ten digs.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday. The Bears travel to Salem State University for a noontime Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match with the Lady Vikings, while the Fighting Scots entertain Nichols College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest at 10:00 AM.
