BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University sophomore Serenity Sands has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

Sands captured top honors in both the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump this past weekend at the 36th Annual Eastern Invitational. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts native won the hurdles with a season-best time of 15.51 seconds as she qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the event. Sands also posted a winning height of five feet, 3.75 inches (1.62m) in the high jump.

Sands currently ranks 14th in all of Division III in the high jump and fifth in the East Region.

The BSU outdoor track & field teams host the MASCAC Championships on Saturday at Swenson Field.
