BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Kiara Abrantes has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week.

Abrantes won the MASCAC individual title in the 400-meter dash with a career best time of 1:00.18 this past weekend at the 2022 MASCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Swenson Field. The Somerset, Massachusetts native also competed on two MASCAC Champion relay teams, the 4x100 (48.55) and the 4x400 (4:09.64), and placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.99 seconds as she helped the Bears capture their second straight MASCAC outdoor crown.

Abrantes currently ranks 15th in the 200 in the East Region and 19th in the 400.

Qualifying members of the BSU outdoor track & field teams will compete at the Division III New England Championships held on Friday and Saturday at Williams College.
