Women's Track & Field Competes at Tufts Sunshine Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Several members of the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team competed on Saturday at the Tufts Sunshine Classic.

Graduate student Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) captured top honors in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles. Andrews recorded a time of 14.85 seconds in the 100 hurdles and posted a season-best time of 1:03.76 in the 400 hurdles. She currently ranks 14th in all of Division III in the 400 hurdles.

Junior Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) finished second in the 100-meter dash with a finals time of 13.11 seconds. Escalera, who posted a 100 preliminary time of 12.99 seconds, also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a career-best time of 26.19 seconds.

The Bears' foursome of Escalera, classmates Madison Ashley (Freetown, Mass.) and Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.), and freshman Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) finished second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.39 seconds.

Abrantes also placed second in the 400-meter dash with a career-best time of 1:00.26.

Junior Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) was the second runner to cross the finish line in the 1,500-meter run as she posted a career-best time of 4:57.79.

The Bears finished third in the team standings at the meet with 75 points. Host Tufts won the team title with 125 points, while UMass Dartmouth placed second with 113 points.

Next Saturday, the BSU outdoor track & field teams will host the MASCAC Championships at Swenson Field.
