Women's Outdoor Track & Field Captures Team Title at Corsair Classic

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Graduate Student Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) won a pair of individual events to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

The Bears placed first in the team standings with 193 points finishing well ahead of second place Coast Guard Academy (138 pts.).

Andrews captured the meet title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.92 seconds and in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.09. Junior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) placed second in the 100 hurdles with a final time of 15.24.

Senior Camille Hanna (Milton, Vt.) broke he own school record in the pole vault with a mark of nine feet, eight inches (2.95m) to take home second at the meet. Hanna eclipsed her previous mark of eight feet, 8.25 inches (2.65) set at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational.

In the high jump, the Bears took home first, second and third place with strong showings from sophomore Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.), junior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.), sophomore Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) and freshman Tristen Gomes (Middleborough, Mass.). Sands won the event with a jump of five feet, 5.75 inches (1.67m), while Peterson took home second with a mark of five feet, 3.75 inches (1.62m). Patrone and Gomes rounded out the top three in the event, both tying with a mark of four feet, 9.75 inches (1.47m).

In triple jump, Gomes placed first in the triple jump, completing her winning leap of 34 feet, 5.5 inches (10.50m).

The Bears had three runners place in the top for in the 800-meter run to continue their resounding dominance on the day. Sophomore Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.), junior Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) and junior Allison Raposo (Cumberland, Ri.) each scored points in the event that featured 35 runners. Major won the event with a  time of 2:29.02, while Glavin took third with a final time of 2:30.33. Raposo rounded out the top four, finishing at 2:33.25.

The Bears' two relay squads each captured individual event titles. The 4x100-meter relay team comprised of McDonough, junior Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.), freshman Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) and junior Madison Ashley (Freetown, Mass.) were the first to cross the line with a time of 49.70, respectively. Sophomore Samila Adilas (Randolph, Mass.) , Glavin, Major, and Junior Emma Rand (Salem, Mass.) crosses the line first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:27.63.

Abrantes also competed in the 400-meter dash, finishing in second with a time of 1:01.37. McDonough rounded out her day with a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line at 12.86 seconds.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the Springfield College Classic hosted by Springfield College.
