Women's Indoor Track & Field Competes at Wheaton Invitational

NORTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team competed at the Wheaton Invitational held on Saturday at the Beard Field House.

The Bears placed third in the team standings with 78 points. Colby College won the meet title with 166 points followed by WPI in second place with 132.

Senior Ashley Garvey (Woburn, Mass.) finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 41 feet, 0.25 inches (12.50m). Garvey also placed third in the shot put (31'8.75"/9.67m) at the meet.

The Bears also received second places performances from junior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) in the high jump (5'5.25"/1.66m), junior Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) in the long jump (15'11.50"/4.86m) and junior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.53). McDonough recorded a preliminary time of 9.34 seconds in the hurdles.

Peterson qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and NEICAAA Championships in the high jump, while McDonough qualified for DIII New Englands in the hurdles.

Senior Camille Hanna (Milton, Vt.) added a third-place showing in the pole vault with a mark of eight feet, 2.50 inches (2.50m), while Allison Raposo (Cumberland, R.I.) finished fourth in the 1,000-meter run (3:16.01) and freshman Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) placed fourth in the 300-meter dash (43.94). Sophomore Samila Adilas (Randolph, Mass.) checked in with a fourth-place performance in the 60-meter hurdles (10.11).

The Bears are back in action next Saturday when they compete at the Massasoit Classic hosted by Springfield College.
