Women's Track & Field Opens Indoor Season at Art Kadish Elm City Challenge

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Junior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) and sophomore Nicole Major (Andover, Mass,) each captured individual titles to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team at the season-opening Art Kadish Elm City Challenge hosted by Southern Connecticut State University on Sunday.

Peterson grabbed top honors in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 4.25 inches (1.63m), while Major placed first in the one-mile run with a time of 5:36.55. Peterson qualified for the Division III New England Championships with her performance in the high jump.

The Bears, who were the only Division III team competing at the meet, finished seventh in the team standings with 46.77 points. The University of New Haven captured the meet title with 99 points, while Southern New Hampshire University (87.83 pts.) and host Southern Connecticut State (81.50 pts.) rounded out the top three teams.

Junior Allison Raposo (Cumberland, R.I.) finished fourth in the one-mile run with a time of 5:41.95. Junior Lindsey Golden (Mansfield, Mass.) and sophomore Julianna Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of four feet, 11 inches (1.50m).

Senior Camille Hanna (Milton, V.T.) took fourth place in the pole vault with a height of eight feet, 6.25 inches (2.60m). Hanna eclipsed her own BSU indoor record of eight feet, 0.25 inches set in 2020.

Freshman Tristen Gomes (Middleborough, Mass.) placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 0.75 inches (10.38m).

Senior Ashley Garvey (Woburn, Mass.) placed sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 41 feet, 8.5 inches (12.71m).

Freshman Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.41 seconds.

The Bears are off until Saturday, January 15th when they travel to Norton, Massachusetts to compete in the Wheaton Invitational at 10am hosted by Wheaton College.
