BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University freshman Madeline Von Ruden has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

A native of Ashley Falls, Massachusetts, Von Ruden went 2-1 in first singles competition and teamed with sophomore Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) for a 2-1 mark in top flight doubles play in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears last week.

Von Ruden posted a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win in singles play as well as an 8-5 doubles victory as the Bears defeated Little East rival UMass Dartmouth, 8-1. She also cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 straight set singles triumph and recorded an 8-2 doubles win in a 9-0 non-conference victory over Eastern Nazarene College.

In the Bears’ eight matches this season, Von Ruden has produced a 4-3 singles record and a 5-3 doubles mark competing exclusively out of the top flight.

The BSU women’s tennis team is currently 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Little East. The Bears entertain LEC foe Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon at three o’clock from the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
