BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Madeline Von Ruden has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Week.

A native of Ashley Falls, Massachusetts, Von Ruden was impressive in her collegiate debut as she posted a dramatic 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory at number one singles and teamed with sophomore Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) for an 8-6 triumph at first doubles to lead the Bears to a 5-4 comeback win on the road over Regis College. With the match knotted at 4-4, Von Ruden battled back from a set down at the top singles flight to secure the season opening victory for the Bears.

The BSU women's tennis team will be back in action on Thursday, September 9th as the Bears entertain Suffolk University at 3:30 from the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
