Olivia Sweeney Named Little East Women's Tennis Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University graduate student Olivia Sweeney has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Sweeney went 3-0 in second singles competition last week and teamed with fellow Taunton native Vanessa Rosa for a 3-0 mark in second flight doubles play as the Bears defeated Little East rival Western Connecticut State University as well as non-conference foes Clark University and Suffolk University.

Sweeney posted a 6-2, 6-2 straight set win in singles play and an 8-3 doubles triumph as the Bears defeated WestConn, 9-0. She also recorded a 6-1, 6-1 straight set singles victory as well as an 8-6 doubles decision in a 7-2 win over Clark. Sweeney capped off the week with a 6-3, 6-0 straight set singles triumph to go along with an 8-1 doubles victory in a 7-2 win against Suffolk.

In four seasons with the Bears, Sweeney has produced an overall singles record of 31-25 including an 18-13 mark in the Little East. She is also 30-14 in doubles competition including an 18-6 record in conference play.

The BSU women’s tennis team is currently 9-2 on the season and 5-1 in the Little East. The Bears travel to Salem State University on Tuesday afternoon for a 3:30 LEC match with the Vikings.
