Olivia Sweeney Named Little East Women's Tennis Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University graduate student Olivia Sweeney has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Sweeney went 3-0 in second singles competition and teamed with fellow Taunton native Vanessa Rosa for a 3-0 mark in second flight doubles play as the Bears defeated LEC rivals UMass Boston and UMass Dartmouth as well as non-conference foe Eastern Nazarene College.

Sweeney posted a 6-1, 6-2 straight set win in singles play and an 8-4 doubles triumph as the Bears defeated UMass Boston, 6-3. She also recorded a 6-1, 6-2 straight set singles victory as well as an 8-2 doubles decision in a 9-0 win over Eastern Nazarene, and capped off the week with a 6-2, 6-1 singles triumph to go along with an 8-3 doubles victory in an 8-1 win at UMass Dartmouth.

In four seasons with the Bears, Sweeney has produced an overall singles record of 28-25 including a 17-13 mark in the Little East. She is also 27-14 in doubles competition including a 17-6 record in conference play.

The BSU women’s tennis team is currently 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Little East. The Bears entertain LEC foe Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday afternoon at three o’clock from the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
