Women's Tennis Receives LEC Team Academic Award

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team is a recipient of a 2021-2022 Little East Conference (LEC) Team Academic Award.

The Bears posted a Little East-best 3.68 team grade point average (GPA) among the nine institutions that sponsor women's tennis.
 
The Little East awards the teams with the highest GPA in the current academic year among each of the league's 21 championship sport offerings.

The 2021-2022 BSU women's tennis roster features graduate student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.); senior Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.); juniors Catie Ledwidge (Somerset, Mass.), Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) and Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.); sophomores Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.), Erin Lally (Danvers, Mass.) and Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.); and freshmen Rebecca Hamel (Windham, Maine) and Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.).

Under the guidance of head coach Dave Purpura (6th year), the BSU women's tenns team posted an overall record of 13-3 last fall including a 7-1 mark in Little East play. The 13 wins marked the most in a season for the Bears since 2013.
