Women's Tennis Falls to RIC in Little East Title Match

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rhode Island College women's tennis team captured its fifth straight Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Tennis Tournament title as the top-seeded Anchorwomen downed #2 Bridgewater State University, 5-1, in the championship match on Saturday afternoon at the RIC Tennis Complex.

The Anchorwomen remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 16-0. RIC will now advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament which gets underway next Spring with first-round play getting underway in mid-May. The Bears wrap up the 2021 campaign with an overall record of 13-3.

The Anchorwomen led 2-1 after doubles play with junior Jenna Lisi (Cranston, R.I.) and senior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) posting an 8-5 win at the top doubles flight and freshman Lauren Macera (Cranston, R.I.) and senior Serena Bobola (Cranston, R.I.) teaming up for an 8-2 decision at the second spot.

The Bears' lone point of the match came at third doubles as the junior tandem of Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) paired up for an 8-6 triumph.

Lisi cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win at first singles to give the hosts a 3-1 lead, and junior Sarah Gonick (Kingston, Mass.) followed with a 6-3, 6-0 straight set decision at number six to push the Anchorwomen to match point. Bobola secured the decisive fifth point with a 6-1, 6-1 straight victory at number five.

The remaining three flights were left unfinished with RIC up a set in all three.
