Women's Tennis Earns #2 Seed in Little East Tournament with 8-1 Win Over Plymouth

HOLDERNESS, N.H. – The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted an 8-1 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over Plymouth State University in the regular season finale for both teams on Sunday afternoon at the Holderness School Courts.

The Bears (12-2, 7-1 LEC) earn the #2 seed and a first round bye in next week's Little East Tournament with their tenth straight win. The Panthers (10-4, 6-2 LEC) will be seeded third in the conference tournament and will host a quarterfinal round match on Tuesday afternoon against #6 Salem State University.

Bridgewater State swept the three doubles matches and captured five of the six singles flights to earn the key conference win.

The Bears' junior tandem of Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) posted an 8-2 victory at number three doubles, while graduate student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) and senior Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-2 decision at the second flight. Freshman Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and sophomore Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) capped off doubles play with an 8-5 win at the top spot.

Sweeney and Rosa remained unbeaten in doubles play as a pairing this season as they improved to 8-0.

Von Ruden (6-1, 6-2), Sweeney (6-3, 6-1), Rosa (6-2, 6-4) and Venditti (6-1, 6-0) added straight set victories in singles competition at the first, second, third and fifth flights, respectively. Sophomore Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' singles winners with a tough 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) triumph at number six.

Venditti wrapped up the regular season with a team-leading 12 singles wins (12-2). Sweeney (10-3) and Carter (10-2) each picked up their tenth singles victories of the 2021 campaign.
