SALEM, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight matches as the Bears posted a 7-2 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over Salem State University on Tuesday afternoon at Salem's Central Campus Courts.

The Bears improve to 10-2 on the season and 6-1 in the Little East, while the host Vikings fall to 3-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Bridgewater State captured two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles flights to earn the win.

In doubles action, graduate student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) teamed up for an 8-1 victory at the second flight, while junior Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) won by default at number three.

In singles competition, Sweeney, sophomore Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.), Venditti and Carter each won in straight sets at the second through fifth flights, respectively, while Silveira picked up a win by default at number six.

Senior Anastasia Startseva (Volksburg, Russia) battled back from a set down against BSU freshman Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley, Falls, Mass.) to pick up a 5-7, 6-3, 10-3 triumph in a very had-fought top flight singles match. Startseva also teamed with classmate Alexandria Floyd (Burlington, Mass.) for an 8-3 decision at number one doubles.

The Bears travel to Curry College on Thursday afternoon (3:00 PM) before wrapping up regular season play with a key Little East match at Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon at one.
