Women's Tennis Downs Clark, 7-2

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over Clark University on Thursday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 8-2 on the season with their sixth straight win, while the Cougars fall to 1-2.

Bridgewater captured two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles flights to secure the win.

In doubles play, BSU graduate student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) and senior Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-6 triumph at the second flight, while the Bears' junior pairing of Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) recorded an 8-5 win at number three. The Sweeney/Rosa combination remains unbeaten in doubles play this season with a 6-0 record.

Sophomore Hannah Russo (Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Andrea Osses Konig (Rego Park, N.Y.) notched the lone doubles point for the Cougars with an 8-2 decision at the top flight.

Sweeney cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 straight set decision at second flight singles, while Rosa battled back from a set down to post a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 triumph at number three. Freshman Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) then picked up the decisive fifth point with a 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 victory at the top spot.

Venditti came back from a set down to win in a third set tie-breaker, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6-3) at number five singles, while sophomore Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) rounded out the Bears' point producers with a tough 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-5) decision at the fourth flight.

Junior Maeve McEnroe (Marion, Mass.) picked up the Cougars' lone point in singles play as she won in a super tie-breaker, 7-5, 5-7, 12-10.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday at noon. The Bears host Suffolk University, while the Cougars travel to Simmons University.
