Women's Tennis Downs UMass Dartmouth, 8-1

SOMERSET, Mass. – The visiting Bridgewater State University women's tennis team posted an 8-1 Little East Conference (LEC) victory over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at the Doug Chapman Courts on the campus of Somerset-Berkley High School.

The Bears improve to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the Little East with their fourth straight win, while the Corsairs fall to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Bridgewater State swept the three doubles matches and captured five of the six singles flights.

In doubles play, freshman Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and sophomore Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) teamed up for an 8-5 win at number one, while graduate student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) and senior Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) combined for an 8-3 triumph at the second flight. The Bears junior tandem of Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) rounded out the doubles scoring with an 8-4 decision at the third spot.

Von Ruden (6-2, 6-3), Sweeney (6-2, 6-1), Venditti (6-1, 6-0) and sophomore Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) added straight set wins in singles play for Bridgewater State at the first, second, fifth and sixth flights, respectively. Carter won her number six singles match, 6-0, 6-1.

Ramer bounced back from a set down to win in a tie-breaker at the fourth singles flight, 4-6, 7-5, 10-3.

The Corsairs lone point of the match came at number three singles as senior Jackie Bokis (Spencer, Mass.) battled back from a set down to win in a tie-breaker, 3-6, 6-1, 10-8.

The Little East schedule continues on Wednesday afternoon as the Bears entertain Western Connecticut State University at three o'clock.
