Women's Tennis Blanks Eastern Nazarene, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 5-2 on the season with their third straight win, while the visiting Lions fall to 2-6 overall. Bridgewater State is now 3-1 all-time versus ENC as the two teams have met four times since 2016.

The Bears swept all three doubles matches and each of the six singles flights.

In doubles play, BSU freshman Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and sophomore Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) teamed up for an 8-2 win at number one, while graduate student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) and senior Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) combined for an 8-2 triumph at the second flight. The Bears' junior tandem of Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.) and Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) added an 8-0 victory at the third spot.

Von Ruden, Rosa, Venditti and sophomore Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) each posted 6-0, 6-0 straight set wins at the first, third, five and sixth flights, respectively. The Bears also received a 6-1, 6-2 straight set decision from Sweeney at the second flight, and a 6-0, 6-1 straight set triumph from Ramer at number four.

In upcoming action, the Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday for a noontime Little East Conference (LEC) tilt with the Corsairs. The Lions are off until next Wednesday (Oct. 6) afternoon when they head to Simmons University to take on the Sharks in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at four o'clock.
