Women's Tennis Falls to Roger Williams, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The visiting Roger Williams University women's tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Bridgewater State University on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Hawks remain unbeaten on the season as they improve to 4-0, while the host Bears fall to 2-1. RWU has won each of the last six meetings of the two teams and is 11-4 versus Bridgewater State since 2005.

Roger Williams swept all three doubles matches and captured each of the six singles flights.

In doubles play, juniors Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) and Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) recorded an 8-3 win at number one, while freshman Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and sophomore Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) combined for an 8-3 decision at the second flight. The Hawks' third flight pairing of freshman Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and sophomore Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) battled to a very tough 8-7 (8-6) decision over BSU senior Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.).

Place added a 6-1, 7-5 victory over BSU freshman Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) in the battle of the top flight singles players. The Hawks also received singles wins from Cahoon at the second spot (6-1, 6-3), Ferraro at number three, senior Alexa DiCesare (Norwood, Mass.) at the fourth flight (6-2, 6-2), McCarthy at number five (6-1, 6-2) and Santoro at six (6-1, 6-0).

Both teams are back in action with key conference matches on Saturday at noon. The Bears host Little East Conference (LEC) rival Rhode Island College, while the Hawks travel to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Endicott College.
