Women's Tennis Blanks Castleton, 9-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over Little East Conference (LEC) foe Castleton University on Saturday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts. The match marked the Little East opener for both teams.

The host Bears improve to 2-0 (1-0 LEC) on the season, while the visiting Spartans fall to 2-2 (0-1 LEC).

Bridgewater State swept the three doubles matches and all six singles flights en route to the win.

Freshman Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) continued her strong start to the season as she teamed with sophomore Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) for an 8-2 triumph at first doubles and posted a 6-1, 6-0 straight set win at number one singles. Ramer added a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the fourth singles flight.

The Bears also received straight set singles wins from graduate student Olivia Sweeney (Taunton, Mass.) at the second flight (6-0, 6-1), senior Vanessa Rosa (Taunton, Mass.) at number three (6-0, 6-0), sophomore Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) at the fifth spot (6-1, 6-4) and junior Brianna Venditti (North Smithfield, R.I.) at number six (6-0, 6-0).

Sweeney and Carter paired up for an 8-0 decision at second doubles, while Rosa and junior Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) combined for an 8-0 win at the third doubles flight.

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain Roger Williams University on Thursday afternoon at three, while the Spartans travel to Plattsburgh State on Wednesday for a four o'clock match with the Cardinals.
