Women's Swimming & Diving Posts 149-95 Victory Over Gordon

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team cruised to a 149-95 victory over visiting Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears improve to 1-1 in dual meet competition on the young season. The Fighting Scots (0-1) were competing in their first meet of the season.

Bridgewater State posted the top time or score in 14 of the 15 events.

The Bears' 200-medley relay squad featuring seniors Jordyn Maxim (Lakeville, Mass.) and Makayla Paquin (North Easton, Mass.), junior Hannah Geoffrion (Barnstable, Mass.) and sophomore Olivia Ranck (Wilbraham, Mass.) won the event with a time of 2:05.24.

Ranck also posted the top time in three individual events as she was the first to touch the wall in the 50 backstroke (30.34), 100 breaststroke (1:17.01) and 200 individual medley (2:26.11).

Maxim, Paquin, fellow senior Danielle Vissering (North Andover, Mass.) and freshman Olivia Pelletier (East Kingston, N.H.) combined to post a time of 4:07.76 in the 400 freestyle relay to close out the meet.

Maxim also captured top honors in the 50 freestyle (26.87), while Paquin placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:07.78). Pelletier and Geoffrion added victories in the 200 freestyle (2:13.85) and 100 butterfly (1:07.55), respectively.

Freshman Brianna Matte (Cumberland, R.I.) placed first in the 100 freestyle (1:01.01) and was the first to touch the wall in the 50 butterfly (30.08).

BSU senior Selin Marino (East Greenwich, R.I.), graduate student Alexa Wilson (Centerville, Mass.) and freshman Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' top performers. Marino captured top honors in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 12:26.75, while Wilson posted a meet-best score of 203.85 points on the one-meter diving board. Murray completed the 500 freestyle in a time of 6:00.55.

Senior Olivia Rose (Nottingham, N.H.) picked up the lone victory of the afternoon for the Fighting Scots as she posted a winning time of 37.45 seconds in the 50 breaststroke.

The Bears did not score for the last four events with the meet victory well in hand.

The BSU swimming & diving teams will be back in action next Saturday afternoon when the Bears entertain Roger Williams University at two o'clock.
