Women's Soccer Posts 5-0 Shutout Over Mass. Maritime

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 shutout victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Friday afternoon in a Massachusetts State  Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The Bears improve to 6-6-1 on the season and 3-1-1 in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneers fall to 2-9-2 overall and 0-4-2 in conference play. Bridgewater State is now 13-0 all-time versus the Buccaneers as the two teams have met every season since Mass. Maritime added women's soccer as a varsity sport in 2008.

Senior defender Samantha Tomaszewski (Sterling, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals to lead the way for Bridgewater State. The Bears also received goals from senior midfielder Delaney Langton (Scituate, R.I.) and senior forward Madelyn Morin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) as well as the first collegiate strike by sophomore defender Megan Keller (Northborough, Mass.).

Langton got the Bears on the board just 2:08 into the contest as she buried a shot from 25 yards out into the right side of the cage. Less than two minutes later, Tomaszewski found the back of the net from 30 yards out to make it a 2-0 game. Both Langton and Tomaszewski notched their first goals of the 2021 campaign.

Morin extended the lead to 3-0 in the 17th minute with senior midfielder Cassie Brown (Augusta, Maine) picking up the assist. Morin slipped a long-range shot from 28 yards away inside the right post.

Tomaszewksi tucked one under the crossbar from 35 yards out in the 41st minute to give the Bears a 4-0 lead at the break. Junior midfielder Erin Clancey (Middletown, R.I.) assisted on the marker.

A 30-yard strike from Keller in the 76th minute eluded the Maritime goalkeeper to round out the scoring for the Bears.

Bridgewater State finished with a 25-6 shot advantage for the game as well as a 7-2 edge in corner kick attempts.

Senior goalkeeper Tory Viola-Laughery (Brockton, Mass.) turned aside three shots to record her sixth shutout of the season.

Sophomore Ally Reddish (Canton, Mass.) and junior Jackie Damery (Plympton, Mass.) combined to make nine saves between the pipes for the Buccaneers.

In upcoming action, the Bears entertain the Beacons of UMass Boston on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30, while the Buccaneers host Fisher College on Tuesday night at seven.
