James Quinlan Inducted into NEWA Hall of Fame

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Former Bridgewater State wrestling standout, James Quinlan '08, was inducted into the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Hall of Fame on Sunday at the 2022 NEWA Dual Meet Tournament held at Johnson & Wales University.

Quinlan competed on the Bears' wrestling team from 2004 to 2008 and was a three-year captain. Jim wrapped up his colligate career with 137 wins including an impressive 43-6 (.878) record in 2006-2007. He holds the Bears' all-time records for wins and pins (69), and also set the single-season record with 23 pins in 2006-2007.

Jim garnered All-New England honors in each of his four seasons including a first-place finish out the 184-pound weight class at the NEWA Championships in 2008. Jim competed out of the 174-pound weight class his freshman season when he set the Bears' rookie records (since broken) for wins (26) and pins (15). He transitioned to the 184-pound weight class his sophomore year and eventually earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament as a senior in 2008.

In the 2006-2007 campaign, Jim tallied 92 dual meet points which is second only to teammate John Fralick who notched 94 points that same season. The 2006-2007 squad set the program record for dual meet wins (19) and highest finish at the NEWA Championships coming in second with 104.5 points.

Jim graduated from Bridgewater State in 2008 with a degree in criminal justice. He began a career in law enforcement in 2010 and has been with the Nashua Police Department since 2015. He resides in Nashua with his wife, Dasha, and daughter, Kira.

A member of the BSU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2019, Quinlan is the Bears' third NEWA Hall of Fame selection as he joins Craig Buckley '04, who was inducted in 2014, and 2020 inductee John Marsh '10.
